Where the numbers come from

Calories are copied from each maker's own product page (metabolizable energy as fed), with a link and the date checked. Grams per can are worked out from kcal per can and kcal per kg. Makers revise formulas; check the package in your hands. This page lists from . Other brands are not included yet; type your food's numbers in step 1.

Daily energy: resting energy RER = 70 × (kg)0.75, times a factor from the Merck Veterinary Manual table: neutered adult 1.2, intact adult 1.4, obesity-prone 1.0, kitten 2.5. These are starting points for healthy cats. Cats with a health condition, and cats that need to lose weight, should follow their vet's number. Adjust by ±10% to keep body condition steady.
